The artists for the Wings in the City public art project have been selected!

St. Louis is spreading itʼs wings...and showing its talent! Each of the 5ʼ x 4ʼ fiberglass butterflies will be painted by a local artist – listed below – in partnership with a sponsoring individual or organization.

The call to artists was announced on January 29th for designs that are beautiful, unique and whimsical. The deadline for submissions was March 19th. The jury, which includes Tricia Paik (Asst. Curator Modern and Contemporary Art,St. Louis Art Museum); Marilu Knode (Laumeier
Sculpture Park); Eric Thoelke (TOKY); Duane Reed (Duane Reed Gallery) and Sarah Colby (BJC Arts in Healing Program) reviewed the submissions and have made their final selections.

The artists were notified on Thursday, April 15th. Butterflies will be picked up on Saturday, May 1st from 11:00am to 1:00pm at:

Each artist will have the summer to complete the painting. Butterflies need to be completed by September 18, 2010 and then will be returned to be clear coated for outdoor display.
