Escape from the Butterfly House

Cari has had an affinity for the arts for as long as she can remember. Cari is an art teacher who enjoys sharing her passion with herstudents and challenging their creativity along the way.

Inspiration:

I worked as the director of an after-school program and summer camp for children in which we took field trips to the Butterfly House at Faust Park. I enjoyed watching the amazement on the faces of the children when the saw the butterflies. I thought that it would be a great theme to have the butterflies "escape" from the butterfly house. I made the butterflies themselves cartoon-like, but I did draw on inspiration from actual photos of butterflies and the designs on their wings. While painting, there were at least three different times that I caught sight of a butterfly sitting on the sculpture. I considered that to be their "stamp of approval".
