Linda has been painting since she was a child. Teaching elementary art gave her the gift of working with raw creativity and young artists who had no inhibitions or preconceived notions of art. These experiences kept her artwork fresh, spontaneous and reflective of her own child-like spirit.
The inspiration and design for “Fly Free” came from a painting I had previously completed. My aim was to recreate the color, line and shape that moved through the painting with the same free flowing and spontaneous movement. As I created the design on the three-dimensional butterfly, it began to develop and grow into one similar to the painting yet with a quality all its own. The progression took place as patterns of color moved left to right, top to bottom and then around, front to back, in a continued layering of overlapping surfaces, just as a butterfly moves freely and gracefully on its life path.
