Sandy’s experience in the graphics field has led her to create very detailed works of art. Her ceramics, drawings, paintings and photography reflect her love of all things nature. Sandy has shown her work in numerous galleries and art fairs in the St. Louis Metro area.
The name “Journey II” is based on the arduous migration of the orange and black monarch butterfly over green valleys and along the blue coastline of Mexico. The monarch migration can take it from Canada to end in Central Mexico – to a destination the arriving swarm has never been. The butterflies’ journey is long and treacherous, yet a testament to courage. For children who have progressive, life threatening or life-limiting illnesses, they face similar challenges.
Because my title was also selected by another artist and we both felt it was integral to our concept, I deemed mine “Journey II.” The brilliant colors selected are commonly found in many butterflies; the greens and blues relate to plants and bodies of water butterflies travel over. As I worked I drew on my years of scuba diving and tropical travel experiences to create the defining elements of the design.
