Valerie gets her artistic inspiration from aesthetic impressions, travel experiences, spiritual revelations, as well family members and everyday life happenings. While her primary media is watercolor, she has also exhibited pieces in mixed media, colored pencils, acrylics, oils and digital photography.
I began this project with an earnest prayer for inspiration. My answer came to me in the form of a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson: “That which lies behind us and that which goes before us are tiny matters compared that that which lies within us.”
I applied its meaning towards the idea of a butterfly – one of God’s meekest creatures, that also has the capability of exhibiting our strongest features: inner beauty and strength. Just as the butterfly has gone through changes, so does our world. As our world challenges, pushes and pulls, we change too, but always by gathering strength from within – to keep trying, fighting…flying.
